Backed by Trinity Ventures at its 2003 launch, Photobucket was acquired by Fox Interactive Media in 2007 before News Corp sold it in 2009 to Seattle startup Ontela, which rebranded itself as Photobucket Inc.; by 2011 it had become Twitter’s default photo-sharing platform. Uploads are organized into Buckets and Albums and kept under a compression-free quality guarantee, with mobile auto-backup, built-in editing tools, and the option to order physical prints. The service runs on a subscription model with tiered storage, and in early 2026 it introduced a Free Plan for new users.
