Co-founded in 2002 by Englishmen Marcus Wainwright and Nathan Bogle — childhood friends with no formal design training who began by making jeans at a factory in Kentucky — the label launched menswear in spring 2004 and womenswear in fall 2005. After Bogle departed in 2006, David Neville stepped in as Wainwright's partner, and an investment from Theory's Andrew Rosen helped accelerate the brand's rise. Recognition followed quickly: a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist spot in 2006 and the 2007 Swarovski Award for Emerging Talent in Menswear, before the first store opened on Christopher Street in 2008. The denim remains a signature, cut from carefully chosen Japanese and Italian fabrics.
